The holidays are rapidly approaching and there are three factors that make this the perfect season to start with a new family or to pick up some extra work:
1. Kids are out of school
The kids are home for the holidays! What fun! But also a lot more work for the parents. They will be looking for extra help at this time of year.
2. The family schedule is busier than ever
There are presents to buy and wrap and trees to trim. There is the house to clean and prepare for the family coming to stay. There are trips to the mall to sit on Santa’s lap and office parties and friend’s parties and more! And we have not even mentioned all the baking and cooking! For a ‘holiday’ period there is anything but rest going on! This is a time when households need more help than ever.
3. Regular nannies and babysitters are off on holiday
Nannies will often go home to visit their friends and families during the holiday season. The same is true for regular babysitters from the local college or university. That means that families who have kids at home and even more than normal on their ‘to do’ lists, will have less of the support than usually in place.
Sounds like a great opportunity, right? But you will need to get moving to make the most of it! Here are some basic tips to get you going:
- Get your profile on www.SOSsitter.ca – It’s FREE! If you have one already, it might be time to refresh it.
- Be clear about your interest in providing extra support over this busy period and what your availability is there are no miss matched expectations.
- As always, talk about your experience with caring for children and what you can bring to the job.
- But also include additional areas with which you would be able to help during the holidays – wrapping presents, addressing Christmas cards, baking, cleaning, taking the kids to the mall – whatever you can do to help make the holidays that much jollier!
And do not forget to bring your holiday spirit to the job! Happy Holidays!
