Empathetic, caring, good sense of humour, sensitive to their needs
Experience:
I don't have formal training with caring for seniors at their homes, but I was by my Dad's side helping and caring, for his final months, as well as experiencing his health issues over the years. I believe in seniors staying in their homes with incoming help, instead of sending them off to a seniors residence where they get the odd person drop in to tend to them and then rush off. This is something I saw every week at a seniors home where I befriended two 90+ year old women. They often talked about their home and past. It breaks my heart to watch these seniors sit alone, staring out a window all day.
I love to talk with them and ask about their life, even if they repeat themselves! I love to tease and bring a smile to their face. I believe in protecting their dignity and giving them the attention they deserve. When possible, I am keen on taking them for walks, as I am a big walker and hiker.
I believe I have what it takes to be a good companion for seniors!
