Hi, I’m looking for someone to visit with my father in a dementia care facility once or twice a week. He was living alone until very recently, but attending weekly activities groups with the Alzheimer’s Foundation. At the new facility, they have no activities! I would like someone to go and play Uno with him, or read books or draw, or really anything— basically, a friendly compagnon to chat and provide mental stimulation. I am hoping to find someone who he gets along with very well. He was a newspaper editor and has a wide variety of interests. He is strictly Anglophone, having moved from Ontario only a few years ago. He likes people and conversation, but he will find this transition to the facility challenging, especially as he is in denial about his condition. Schedule would be flexible, ideally 1 or 2 afternoons per week. Pay is negotiable, depending on what you usually charge. There would be a trial period of a few weeks to make sure you are a good fit for my dad.
